what is worth the most on the open market

Did you not get Crystal Cove last time? Neither did I -- in fact, the event ended while I was six times GDC-bound, so I didn't get time to turn in any of my items or check out the rewards beyond my cold new pirate hat. I resigned myself to waiting until next year until our PAX guys offered up a little memento for me: a code for a DDO pirate hat. That ray of hope was followed quickly by confirmation: Crystal Cove is back! They have got 10 more days to indulge in this event; it is going on now and will last until the 27th. There is one little modify, though: "Items acquired from Euphonia's Barter Box can no longer be sold." This doesn't sound like a immense modify on the surface until you think about the effect that Dowsing Rods had on the economy last time. (In case you missed out on the incident, the short version is that players obtained these highly coveted reward items from Euphonia's reward chest and made a mint selling them, turning the game economy upside-down.) "Debacle" and "disaster" were a few words I saw thrown about, and Turbine has avoided a repeat of that issue by stopping all sales of the items, period.

Euphonia's Challenge is back!

Now that the only choices for the items are to make use of them or junk them, I foresee players thinking very carefully about what their characters need in the way of new gear, than what is worth the most on the open market. I see that as a great thing, although I can understand some player frustration that you cannot even seller the items.

I am liking this solution -- it is tidy and simple. Slicing the Gordian Knot is not always the best response, in game development, but in some cases it is -- like in this one. These things are intended as rewards for a player's participation in the event, not as a way to bring new items in to the player market and auction house.

Finally, I have been told that Euphonia's challenge is coming back "later this year," and I must express my hope that Turbine won't overdo it. In-game events and festivals are fun in part because they are a special treat and are not available very often. The Risia Ice Games were such fun last year, but I must confess that I ignored the last few rounds because the event had come so often it wasn't a treat any more. The encore of this event is great, but I honestly hope not to see it again until possibly next fall -- I require a chance to look forward to it!

As always, I am anxious to listen to your thoughts on the new details from Turbine, so this is the part where I tell you to hit the comment button and tell me what you think. I'll see you in game!

I decided that with all this talk of drinking, it was time for me to jump over to the bar & grab a drink for myself. But before I could order, the brewer nearby, Rasel Alechaser, asked me to go on a search for Everlasting Brew. That is a challenge I could not pass up, & I set off to get the ingredients. First I had to collect up pure water from various locations, which was simple on my flying griffon.

Next, I had to head to Thundering Steppes to discover a farmer named Prew Drowers, who has the best hops but the worst brews. (Using the water from the cow trough might be part of the reason.) Prew was about as obstinate as his cow Bessy, & I had to get smart if I wanted his hops. I decided to get to him through his prized cow, Betsy. Shoulder down, I charged right in to the Bard & knocked her flat off her feet. Prew came jogging, I hustled back in to his house to snag the hops & flew off to get the barley.

Tiny did I do know that Jimmy Runner was even more obdurate than Prew. I discovered that he is the angry drunk, so I needed to first sober him up & then slowly mellow him out with the right combination of spirits & beer. Finally, he gave up the goods, & I was set for my final step, which involved a visit to the Sanctorium of Brell.

If you have ever seen Michigan Jones & the Last Crusade, you'll appreciate the final challenge in the Sanctorium of Brell. By & large room, you'll discover a table with several steins of different shapes & various materials. The Keeper of the Stein tests your knowledge of Brell, & you require to drink from the correct stein in order to pass the check. The only hints we are given is that Brell, like all Dwarves, loved riches but didn't flaunt them. Also, he often bashed his fellow Dwarves over the head along with his stein. Knowing this, which would you pick?

I ultimately selected the right one & was rewarded with a pleasant Brew Day cloak. Here's what it looks like. I do know it appears a bit fuzzy, but that is because Rasel made me taste Brell's Brew, which is powerful stuff!

Brew Day has a tiny something for everyone -- from unusual appearance & house items to some simple AA experience. On top of it all, these quests are flat out fun to do. So grab your stein & head over to the Bar of Brell. & don't forget to snag any purple shinies you come across, because they are part of the special Brew Day collection. In the event you require any details on locations or updates, be definite to visit EQ2i. Now if you'll excuse me, I am off to help Oldar Foambeard compare some brews.

We have been hearing more from the Gods & Heroes team as development progresses, & now that the NDA has lifted, the devs are feeling chatty.

Not definite what to ask? The developers will be speaking about GDC, expectations for estates, social media features, & far more -- so use those topics to get some ideas & send your questions in today!

Runes of Magic shows off a teaser trailer for Chapter 4

New F2P fantasy MMO DragonSoul announced

While lots of of you are no doubt playing a sure dragon-themed BioWare title that hit American shores today, the MMORPG world is being graced with a brand spanking new dragon-centric title of its own in the kind of Neonga AG's just-announced DragonSoul.

DragonSoul is a free-to-play fantasy title sporting a political method that is "a main feature of the game" according to a Neonga press release. Players can select to side with one of seven matchless kingdoms, cast votes to choose a ruler, and take the field of battle in said ruler's name. DragonSoul is not entirely about PvP, though, as the title also boasts various non-combat activities including "the cultivation of crops, the mining of resources, the upbringing of pets, and a versatile crafting and upgrade method."

Interested players may register for the closed beta check at the game's official net site and prepare for DragonSoul's open beta which is currently schedule for the second quarter of 2011.

There is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming Runes of Magic chapter 4, as outlined by our own Jeremy Stratton recently. But sometimes, the promise of new systems cannot stand up to an impressive new set of visuals, and a minute of video can provide lots of excitement in ways that game mechanics usually cannot. The latest trailer for the update, now dubbed Lands of Despair, ought to do an excellent job of drumming up player enthusiasm.

Runes of Magic shows off a teaser trailer for Chapter 4

Featuring a slow zoom-in accompanied by a steady and suitably creepy voice-over, the trailer is a step beyond any of the earlier trailers the team has put together. The full trailer can be viewed on the game's official YouTube channel, and it provides an impressive cavalcade of imagery both unsettling and dramatic. Runes of Magic players might not have a exact date for the patch yet, but between the visuals and the method changes, there is plenty to anticipate.

enjoy a bright prospect thanks to its nonstop expansion of the abroad markets

According to the famous South Korean game company Webzen's 2010 financial statement, the company achieved sales of 37.2 billion won last year, with an operating profit of 6.6 billion won and a net profit of 6.2 billion won.

Webzen's increase in sales last year was chiefly attributed to its major games' stable incomes, like MU Online and R2, as well as C9's continuous growth. Webzen will keep following the current favorable trend this year, and will enjoy a bright prospect thanks to its nonstop expansion of the abroad markets.

In contrast with 2009, Webzen witnessed an increase of about 34% in sales last year, and the operating profit of 6.6 billion won also successfully reversed its deficit-making situation.

Webzen officially operated the new version of SUN (Soul of the Ultimate Nation) - Prelude to A New Period (translated) from Feb. 24, with a large-scale update carried out as well. Moreover, highly-anticipated MU Online 2 is also set to be open this year, and the global business and gained responses of Ymir Entertainment, which was taken over early this year, also shows that Webzen has formally started its new life.

Just when you thought it was all about beautiful landscapes and lush pastorals, we have this image of a recent potential near-death experience from the lands of Atreiya. While Michael G. and his friend managed to avoid trouble from the flying monstrosity we see in this picture, others nearby may not have been quite as lucky. He writes in to tell us about his recent experience while playing Aion: "I was finishing off the quest for the flash longbow with my friend when the area we needed to go to was suddenly attacked by a Dredgion flying out of the fort. We moved to the cliffs and waited for it to pass before killing the mobs we needed to kill."

2011 is shaping up to be a busy year for Archlord, the free-to-play PvP-centric MMO from Webzen. In a press release earlier today, the company announced plans for various updates over the course of the year including a level cap increase, new battlefields, and tweaks to the game's racial balancing.

A new title system is also on the way, as well as a new map for high-level characters (both in the first half of the year). For the second half, Webzen is aiming for new boss monsters and a new Battle Square called the 3rd Challenge where players are pitted against one another with a chance to obtain rare items.

Archlord launched in 2006 in Europe and North America and features a unique crafting system as well as the ability for players to become the Archlord, a singular (and incredibly powerful) ruler who reigns over the server in four-week intervals.

RIFT reveals details on the Mathosian Empire

With the next beta event for Trion Worlds' upcoming fantasy MMO RIFT scheduled to begin on January 25th, new information on the game has been flowing thick and fast. In the latest reveal, Trion has released details and screenshots of the Mathosian Empire. Nestled in the mountains, the Mathosian Empire was an ancient and powerful faction of human hunters ruled over by King Jostyr Mathos.

Using Dwarven steel and Elven magic, the Mathosians took war to the dragons, banishing them in the name of keeping the flatlands of Telara safe. The empire's rule spread across the RIFT map, and they constructed great cities like Port Scion. With King Jostyr's passing, the Mathosian Empire fell into a vicious civil war between his sons Aedraxis and Zareph. The Shade War, as it came to be known, resulted in the fracturing of the ward seals keeping Telara safe from the destructive influence of the planes. With the seal broken, the empire now lies in ruin, with the mighty Port Scion now overrun by the Deathtouched and dangerous planar openings now ravaging Telara. Trion has released several new screenshots of what remains of the Mathosian Empire, which can be found in the gallery below.

What's left to do for the bloke who created Blizzard's seminal Diablo series? A promotion to president & COO of a major gambling company is probably near the top of the list, & Gazillion Entertainment has done  that with former Blizzard North president David Brevik.

Former Blizzard executive named president of Gazillion Entertainment

Uncharted Waters Online releases new Aztec-themed update

Prior to assuming his new duties, Brevik served as the project leader for Gazillion's upcoming Marvel Universe title, & also was responsible for lead design & lead programming aspects of both Diablo & Diablo II in the work of his tenure at Blizzard. Brevik dropped a hint as to one feasible future for online gambling (as well as Gazillion's focus going forward) in a company press release detailing his appointment. "Gazillion is committed to developing top-tier online games. The future will be defined by console-quality games in the net browser, & they think they can make this a reality today," they said.

The update also features a brand new level quest, a docking process that allows player ships to be anchored, & new player recipes, all of which look to add  a tiny bit of depth to the empire-building MMO.

The team at Tecmo Koei is wasting no time getting a jump on the new year, as it's already released a brand-new update to Uncharted Waters Online. The new content, titled Aztec Update: The City of Golden Culture Revealed, is centered around Tenochtitlan, the capital city of the Aztec empire. The patch adds a brand new city-building mechanic & allows enterprising architects to experience the new player-driven economy & construct a city from scratch after choosing from five categories (frontier city, city of culture, commerce city, armed city, or central city).

Being homeless orphans, they often lived in hunger and cold. After growing up, their desire for gold was so strong that nobody could stop them. In order to possess unlimited gold, they began to learn alchemy. They didn't realize it was a visionary dream until they discovered that the food and scrolls refined by them could save lives.

Tailor--- Artisan

Artisan Settings

They were clever and deft from childhood and became apprentices of a famous craftsman. Unluckily, they were expelled soon, because they copied a bank key after being lured by evildoers. Although they were heartbroken and abandoned themselves to vice, they didn't give up creating gems, hides and cloth. At last, they exorcized the demon in mind and resumed the road to searching for various materials.

the health of a legion can be an integral part of your gambling experience

Wings Over Atreia: Death of a legion

It happens. You might be trucking along, grinding your own business when BAM! Suddenly your /l chat is gone. What the... ? Yup, your legion  disbanded. Or maybe the leader  disappears offline for an extended time period. Could be that the leadership drives members away by its actions (or inaction). So the death knell tolls.

With reasons ranging from real life (work, family) to game mechanics (boredom, frustration) to the most frequent culprit, drama (cyber-relationships gone bad, over-inflated egos, power-hungry control freaks), legions fold. it is a fact of gambling -- though not always a negative one. But in Aion, where reputation, rating, and Abyss contribution are significant factors to players, the death of a legion can have more consequences than  missing a chat channel. in the event you are lucky and have forewarning, you can plan ahead to minimize the impact on your gambling experience.

If your legion has folded -- or is about to -- what're your options? Let's drop our wings and dive past the cut to explore some accessible paths to take when this fact of e-life happens.

Groups (guilds, kinships, corporations, etc.) in other games may be able to withstand a lack of leadership over an extended time without  much difficulty; however, if active leadership is missing in Aion, a nice portion of the game is lost for legion members. Only the Brigade General can assign permissions for the legion, and only Centurions can be granted permissions to invite members, kick members, access the legion warehouse, or activate any captured artifacts in the course of warfare in the Abyss. Only the legion leader collects the kinah and medals from owning a fortress. it is not  a matter of losing heart or direction without a leader; players lose out on earned rewards. In other words, the health of a legion can be an integral part of your gambling experience, and the death of a legion has an impact.

Legions die in many ways, from slow nasty deaths in which the life is sucked right out of them to the sudden and unexpected. Whether you listen to piercing shrieks in the course of the throes of death or it  slips quietly in the night is contingent on the individual circumstances leading up to it. sometimes, the legions are basically laid to rest. Other times, they are still there in name, but the spirit is already dead as members flock to better environments. Whether their legion is dead or the walking dead, players are faced with the "What next?" query.

Sometimes, a leader declares his purpose to step down and chooses to pass the reins on to another. This can either be a  mournful thing (saying goodbye to a nice friend) or a  glad thing (when it means the drama will end). For the  lucky, the remaining group gets to decide itself what will be best for the legion moving forward. For the unfortunate, the leader  gives command over to whomever they desires out of spite. Either way, this group has the most options accessible.

Passing the buck

Daevas of Our Lives, legion episode

Although it always comes down to each individual choosing for himself what is best, this time of transition can be used by the group as a whole to refocus on where to go. without drama (we will cover that later), the most obvious choice is to continue together in the current legion, thereby retaining Abyss contribution and rank. in the event you have cultivated a reputation -- be it for PvP, RP, or what have you -- maintaining the legion and legion name may be  important to you. On the flip side, if there has been drama, or in the event you have a reputation you do not  require to continue with, you have the chance to rename and start fresh, without sacrificing all of the work people put in to the legion. True, people can look up your legion name two times it's changed, but for the most part, word associations will fade -- as long as your legion turns over a brand spanking new leaf and doesn't basically rehash whatever activities gave it that reputation to start with!

So, possibly the legion surroundings is fraught with drama and the loss of the leader is a welcome addition to your gambling. But what if the leader refuses to let go of what "he" built and chooses in lieu to retain leadership when they quits the game? Worse, what if leadership ping-pongs in activity, taunting members with "what might be"? Both of these scenarios prevent others from helping the legion to grow and move forward. If the leader chooses to go MIA from game but refuses to relinquish legion control, the best choices to consider are moving as a group to another legion, leaving and forming your own legion, or scattering to the winds.

If your group truly enjoys gambling together, then obviously the first two choices are ideal. regrettably, sometimes finding another legion that both fits your group's ideals and playstyle and can also fit all of your group is difficult. in the event you can move to an established legion, you have the benefit of a bigger pool of people to play with as well as feasible Abyss rating.

The last choice -- scattering -- will without a doubt be preferred by some individuals or by a group that was not cohesive to start with. It might even be utilized if no legion can be found to fit your current group and no one is willing and able to step up and take on leadership (trust me, any nice leader knows that there is no glory in walking a legion --  work, more work, and less time to ever enjoy the game). In this scenario, each individual moves to whatever legion best fits each personally.

However, legions are usually formed around similar ideals; there is a reason your group was together in lieu of already in another group, after all. If no one can suit your needs gameplay- or size-wise, you may opt basically to reform as a brand spanking new legion. This will let you keep your ideals in place as well as make certain that there is room for everyone. The downside is that you lose all of your legion's Abyss contribution points and rank. You also lose your legion's reputation; however, if drama was involved, that could be a nice thing. And if your individual members have nice reputations, then those will carry over to the new legion.

High and dry

in the event you happened to have the misfortune of logging in and thinking your legion was unusually calm, only to discover there was no legion (as a group of my friends discovered one fateful day), you have the fewest options; you are  much limited to finding a brand spanking new legion -- as a group or individuals -- or making your own. Again, in the event you have a group of people desirous to stay together, there is the task of finding a home to accommodate you. Worse, you no longer have a communal chat in which to collaborate with all of your comrades. With any luck, you still have use of a Ventrilo or similar program for your discussion, because juggling whispers with 40+ folks all trying to share ideas and input would drive the sanest person batty. Not to mention,  much information would get lost.

Whether your legion spontaneously combusted or its death was celebrated and mourned, at some point you must pick up and move forward. OK, admittedly there are some folks who choose to stay in a legion of less than four or go legion-less entirely, but this is the minority; gamers tend to be social (why else go in to a massively multiplayer game?). Moving on may not always be simple or even  pleasant to start with; for me, even in the worst scenario it was still painful to watch a legion take its last breath. Even amid the bad, there were bonds forged with others, friendships created and strengthened, and memories born. However, like I would with any modify in life, I will choose to make use of the experience to grow. That, and  be grateful it's finally over. May it rest in peace.

The afterlife

some of the engineering is required to put together a well-planned train system

Online Train Games

For the past several years, online train games have become increasingly popular. These games were developed in the early to mid-1990s. As you can imagine, many of the people who initially flocked to this particular game genre were people who had a great deal of interest in model trains and locomotives in general. Many of the developers themselves were people who had a long-standing interest in this particular genre.

From a conceptual standpoint, many train games revolve around the idea of developing an infrastructure through which an ever increasingly complex assortment of trains can operate. Some variants include attempting to become a tycoon, and others focus more closely on some of the engineering is required to put together a well-planned train system.

Throughout the past several years, as online graphics and Internet connectivity speeds have improved, these games and have taken on an even more realistic appearance. Not to mention, there is a great deal of effort that has been put into organizing these games in a way that truly creates an interactive environment in which players feel as if though they are playing a significant role. As a matter of fact, many people who have been playing train games since the very beginning will tell you that the genre has truly grown from very rudimentary graphics and simple gameplay environments to ones that are significantly more advanced.

While it is true that many people who happen to be interested in model trains and locomotives in general are still attracted to these types of games, and also attracted a wider audience of players. This is good news given the fact that the more people who play these types of games, the more incentive developers have in creating ever increasingly more complex and diverse game environments. Train games are certainly here to stay and will remain a part of the Internet for many years to come.
